Microsoft Flight Simulator Making a Comeback… or will it be a Flop?

June 11, 2019 by Dan Leave a Comment

Is this a real photo?… No, but you would have tricked me. This is an image from the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

If you haven’t heard, Microsoft has just announced a new Flight Simulator for 2020! This is amazing news no matter what way you look at it. A little healthy competition doesn’t hurt. Also, if you have seen the trailer for the sim then you will know that the graphics appear to be incredible. Absolutely amazing! You must see the trailer below.

oming 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator is the next generation of one of the most beloved simulation franchises. From light planes to wide-body jets, fly highly detailed and stunning aircraft in an incredibly realistic world. Create your flight plan and fly anywhere on the planet. Enjoy flying day or night and face realistic, challenging weather conditions.

Great Visuals… but is that all?

At this point in time it is too early to tell if Microsoft Flight Sim is going to be a great sim.

Microsoft has always been the golden standard for flight sim until it released “Flight” in 2012. This flight simulator was more of a game and completely flopped in many ways. I would assume that Microsoft has learned from the past flight sim and has clearly found their way, however only time will tell.

On the other side of the coin, FSX is still being used and loved by many flight sim enthusiasts. Some of them have so many upgrades that they could have bought a full motion sim. This shows you that there is a big crowd waiting for a product like this.

From what I have found, it appears they have went back to a full out flight simulator. From the name down to the information they have provided. They mention that you will be able to fly anywhere in the world with light planes, all the way up to large jets. Realistic weather in day or night.

Let’s cross our fingers and hope that Microsoft has went the right direction.

On the Downside

We do know that this new flight sim is going to be part of their Xbox Game pass, which means that it will be on the subscription model. Great new for anyone who already uses this, however for the rest of us, I think we could probably agree that a out right purchase would be a better choice.

Now, I know a lot of people have said that if it is a subscription model, that they won’t be interested. I would like to say the same thing, however if the sim looks anything like the announcement video, then I won’t have a choice.

Conclusion

For now, we know that it appears as though it will have incredible graphics. Will it replace X-Plane 11. I don’t think so. But it may give X-Plane 11 a serious competitor.

This is great time to be involved in Flight Simulation. Some amazing advancements in flight simulation are coming are way.

Hope you enjoy, and I will try to keep you tuned into what happens. If you want to be notified by email, make sure you sign up to the email list below.
