Flight Simulator 2020 vs X-Plane 11

September 13, 2025 by Dan Leave a Comment

X-Plane 11 has become the gold standard for flight simulation as of lately. It took a lot to take down FSX, however I believe that they eventually accomplished this. Now, it’s time for X-Plane and Laminar Research to sit back and relax… Oh wait…

The king is back with Microsoft Flight Simulation. They took a long break from flight simulation but they have come back and it appears that the community is excited. Each video that is released by Microsoft get’s more and more support from the community.

At first I was sceptical, as the last release from Microsoft was Microsoft Flight… Which was a complete flop. But they have restored my confidence with all of the informational videos they have provided. I am extremely excited for the new release.

So, how does Microsoft Flight Simulation compare to X-Plane 11.

Well, there are many areas to compare, however from what is seen in the preview videos, it appears that Microsoft may have a serious edge on X-Plane 11. The graphics are crisp and highly detailed. X-Plane 11 has good graphics, however you can’t compare the base graphics to the new Microsoft Flight Sim. There really isn’t a good comparison. If you want to see this comparison in action, take a look at the video I made where I compare X-Plane 11, FSX and Microsoft Flight Simulation 2020. With some add on scenery for X-Plane 11 you can get closer.

VIDEO HERE

Other then the graphics, Microsoft Flight Simulation has brought so many other amazing features to the new sim. This includes a new and improved ATC, real world flight data, built in multiplayer, and many other features. The new real world flight data is going to be amazing. When a real world plane takes off at an airport, it will take of in the simulator.

What is missing?

So, if there is one thing that we are missing from Microsoft Flight Simulation that allows X-Plane 11 to stay king, at least in one section, is VR. At this point in time there is no announcement for VR Support. Their has been information from the developers that this is coming in the near future.
